Department of Texas VFW Auxiliary President
2019 - 2020
Donna James was installed as Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Texas Auxiliary President at the June 2019 State Convention in Houston, Texas. She joined the Auxiliary in 1997 under the eligibility of her father, William Gus Whatley Sr. Mr. Whatley served in the United States Marine Corps in the Korean War. He also received the Purple Heart for injuries while serving.
She joined in VFW Post 2412 Auxiliary in Sargent and later transferred to West Brazos VFW Post 8551 in Sweeny, her hometown. She has served as Auxiliary President for many years, was District President for 3 years, and served all the Chairs in Department before finally being elected as President. She has served as many chairmen at Department, District, and Auxiliary level. She has won many awards including 3 plates at National level, Outstanding District President, Outstanding Auxiliary President many times at State and District levels. She was also awarded Outstanding Patriotic Instructor at National and State levels.
She serves on the Brazoria County Parade Steering Committee. She is Chairman for the Brazoria County Veterans Day breakfast which serves 200 plus Veterans breakfast every year during Veterans Day. She is a life member of the Brazoria County Fair, a Gulf Coast Conservation Association member, and a Master Electrician for the State of Texas. She is a retired Electrical and Instrument Technologist.
She is married to Glenn James. Glenn served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.
She has one son, Dustin Mitchamore, daughter-in-law, Brandi, and two grandsons, Mason and Hudson. Her brother, Walter, served in the United States Marine Corps and a is a member of West Brazos VFW Post 8551.
In her spare time, she enjoys glass etching, stained glass, jewelry making, landscaping, and crafting. She loves to fish and competes in the STAR tournament every year. Her heart is with helping veterans and spends many hours at Post home helping with fundraisers to support the Veterans.
